General Insurance Licensing Exam Prep: Mock Exam Access

100% online, self-paced access to mock exams for the two Ontario general insurance licensing exams: RIBO Level 1 (brokers) and OTL (agents). Area quizzes and full-length timed mock exams follow the official format and weighting, with an explanation for every quiz answer. Choose the exam you are writing. No lectures and no scheduled sessions: you register, your eligibility is assessed, and you take the mock exams online before your exam.

Not sure yet? Start with the Free Diagnostic Access (one week, no fee, both diagnostics) and come back for the quizzes and mock exams.

Who this is for

Access to these mock exams is for people getting licensed to sell car, home and business insurance in Ontario. In everyday terms, that means future general insurance brokers and agents.

Is this exam for you?

  • Insurance broker (RIBO Level 1). You work for a brokerage and offer policies from several insurance companies. Licence: Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) Level 1. Exam: RIBO Level 1.
  • Insurance agent (OTL, general insurance agent). You are sponsored by an insurance company and sell its auto, home and business policies. Licence: general insurance agent licence from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA). Exam: the OTL Agent's exam.
  • Common job titles: insurance broker, insurance agent, personal lines broker or agent, insurance sales representative.

Not covered:

  • Life, health, disability and critical illness insurance. These need the LLQP exam, not the RIBO or OTL exam.
  • Other provinces. Alberta and British Columbia mock exams are planned and are not open yet.
  • RIBO Level 2 and Level 3 (management) exams.

The official exams

  • RIBO Level 1: 100 scored multiple-choice questions plus 15 unscored pilot questions, 3 hours, pass mark 75%. Mix: general insurance and the industry 25, automobile 25, habitational 25, commercial 20, travel health 5. The exam is booked with the Insurance Institute of Canada or IBAO.
  • OTL Agent's exam: 110 multiple-choice questions including 10 unscored pilot questions, 135 minutes, pass mark 75%. Weighting: industry knowledge 30%, automobile 30%, habitational 30%, business 5%, claims 5%. The exam is booked with the Insurance Institute of Canada.

What you get

  • RIBO Level 1 Mock Exam Access (CAD 49): the RIBO diagnostic, five area quizzes with explanations (10 questions each, untimed, unlimited attempts) and four full-length timed mock exams (100 questions, 3 hours, 75% pass mark, four attempts each), with results by email.
  • OTL Agent Mock Exam Access (CAD 39): the OTL diagnostic, four area quizzes with explanations (10 questions each, untimed, unlimited attempts) and four full-length timed mock exams (100 questions, 125 minutes, 75% pass mark, four attempts each), with results by email.

Access period: 30 days from approval, or until your exam date if that comes first.

CCEC guarantee. If you do not pass the official RIBO Level 1 or OTL exam on your first attempt, you can have one further access period to the same Mock Exam Access, until your new exam date, at no charge. Send your official result notice and your new exam date through the support form. This is not a cash refund.

Who can register

No course certificate is needed to register for these mock exams. To register you need:

  • To be preparing for the Ontario RIBO Level 1 or OTL exam
  • A valid government photo ID and proof of your exam booking showing your exam date (uploaded with the Mock exam document upload form within 3 days of registering; the link is in your registration confirmation email)

Licence requirements after the exam (for example being 18 or older, background checks and, for agents, sponsorship by an insurer) are set by RIBO and FSRA, not by CCEC.

How registration works

  • Choose RIBO Level 1 or OTL and complete the registration form, including the eligibility declaration. Then upload a copy of your government photo ID and proof of your exam booking using the Mock exam document upload form (the link is in your registration confirmation email), with the same email address you registered with, within 3 days.
  • Pay online by credit card at the end of the form. An unpaid registration is cancelled automatically after 15 minutes, and you can register again at any time.
  • Assessment. Your details and documents are checked against the eligibility requirements, usually within a few hours if everything is in order. If our Admissions team needs anything else, you are told exactly what to send and by when. If no documents arrive within 1 hour of registering, you receive one reminder.
  • Access. If approved, you receive your access email with the link, your access code and your access end date. If not approved, you are told why, and your fee is refunded in full by the same payment method within 2 to 3 business days.
