Admission Requirements: Domestic Applicants

Minimum Admission Requirements

Each program has its own admission criteria, so read the program page before you apply. Where a governing body sets specific admission requirements for a program, those requirements take priority over the College’s criteria.

Academic Requirement (Ontario Regulation 415/06, section 19)

• An Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; or
• Mature Student Status: 18 years of age or older and a pass on a qualifying test approved by the Superintendent of Career Colleges.
• Any other academic qualifications or minimum age set as a condition of the Superintendent’s approval of the program, and any additional requirements set by the College for the program, such as an English language assessment or an aptitude evaluation.

For credentials earned outside Canada, the College considers the same academic preparation required for college or university entrance in that country.

Required Documents

1. A copy of government-issued photo identification, such as a passport biographical data page or a government photo ID card.
2. A copy of proof of status in Canada, such as a passport, PR card, birth certificate, or refugee status document.
3. A copy of proof of a legal name change, if applicable, such as a name change affidavit. It is required if the name on your ID does not match the name on your educational credentials. Marriage certificates are not accepted as proof of a legal name change.
4. A copy of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or a higher diploma or degree; or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), where applicable; or Mature Student Status.
5. Proof that you are 18 years of age or older at the time of registration.
6. Acceptance of your Letter of Acceptance (LOA).

The College may admit a student who does not meet all admission requirements on a provisional basis. Meeting the minimum requirements and deadlines does not guarantee admission; in some programs, only the most qualified candidates are considered.

English Language Proficiency

The language of instruction is English. If English is not your first language, show proficiency with one of the following:

• IELTS Academic: overall band 5.5 or higher
• TOEFL: 80 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based)
• MELAB: 80
• PTE Academic: 50 overall
• At least 3 years of full-time study at a school in a country on the English proficiency exemption list, with a letter or transcript confirming the language of instruction

Certification (Non-Vocational) Programs

Students in certification programs for licensed professionals must:

• Provide a copy of a valid licence or authority to practise in the occupation from the relevant jurisdiction
• Read and follow the course outline, syllabus, and course materials, and continue individual study as they set out
• Be fluent in English
• Follow the College’s exam rules and guidelines, review the assessment schedule, and register online on time
