Is this exam for you?

  • Alberta: candidates for the General Insurance Level 1 licence. Exam: the Alberta General Insurance Level 1 exam, set by the Alberta Insurance Council (AIC).
  • British Columbia: candidates for the Level 1 General Insurance Salesperson licence. Exam: the BC Level 1 General Insurance Salesperson exam, run by the Insurance Institute; the licence is issued by the Insurance Council of British Columbia.

Not covered: Ontario (see the Ontario RIBO Level 1 and OTL mock exams), Level 2 and Level 3 exams, adjuster exams and other provinces.

The official exams

  • Alberta General Insurance Level 1: 100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, pass mark 70%, written in person (AIC computers in Calgary and Edmonton, paper elsewhere).
  • BC Level 1 General Insurance Salesperson: 100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, closed book, pass mark 70%, online with a virtual proctor or in person in Vancouver.

What you get, free of charge

  • A timed diagnostic for your exam: 40 questions in 48 minutes, one attempt, with instant scoring and a breakdown by exam area.
  • Access for one week from approval.

Ready for the area quizzes and timed mock exams? See Mock Exam Access (Standard CAD 29, Full Access CAD 49, or the Alberta Combo or BC Combo at CAD 89 with the LLQP mock exams and study guides).

Who can register

To register you need to be preparing for one of these exams and to meet the licensing body's own requirements for it:

  • Alberta: the Alberta Insurance Council requires General License Qualification Program (GLQP) certification from an approved education provider (valid for one year) before you write, and a CIPR number to register for the exam.
  • British Columbia: the Insurance Council of British Columbia requires one of its approved education routes and the Council Rules Course for the Level 1 licence.

You also need a valid government photo ID and proof of your exam booking showing your exam date, uploaded with the Mock exam document upload form within 3 days of registering; the link is in your registration confirmation email.

Eligibility to write and licensing requirements are set by the Alberta Insurance Council and the Insurance Council of British Columbia, not by CCEC.

How free registration works

  1. Complete the registration form, including the eligibility declaration. There is no payment step: your registration is submitted as soon as the form is complete. Then upload a copy of your government photo ID and proof of your exam booking using the Mock exam document upload form (the link is in your registration confirmation email), with the same email address you registered with, within 3 days.
  2. Assessment. Your details and documents are checked against the eligibility requirements, usually within a few hours if everything is in order. If our Admissions team needs anything else, you are told exactly what to send and by when. If your documents have not arrived, you receive reminders, the first about 2 hours after registering.
  3. Access. If approved, you receive your access email with the link, your access code and your access end date, one week from approval. If not approved, you are told why.

One free registration

One free registration per person. Free Diagnostic Access cannot be extended or repeated; for continued access, register for Mock Exam Access.

  • This product is access to mock exams only. It is not a licensing course (it is not GLQP and not an approved BC education route) and it is not the official licensing exam.
  • Access to these mock exams does not give you a licence. To be licensed you must pass the official exam and meet the other requirements of the Alberta Insurance Council or the Insurance Council of British Columbia.
  • Canadian Career Education College (CCEC) is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Alberta Insurance Council, the Alberta Superintendent of Insurance, the Insurance Council of British Columbia, the Insurance Institute of Canada or any insurer. • Exam areas follow the Alberta Insurance Council General Level 1 Curriculum Design Document (March 2021) and the Insurance Institute BC Level 1 exam outline. Alberta automobile questions follow Care-First, which applies to all Alberta auto policies from 1 January 2027. CCEC questions are original; no questions from past official exams are used.
