The Exam You Are Preparing For

The Ontario Pesticide Exterminator certification exam is administered by Ontario Pesticide Training and Certification (OPT&C), University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus. It has two parts: the Core Manual exam (50 multiple-choice questions, 1 hour, closed book) and a licence category module exam (50 questions, 1.5 hours, open book). A mark of 75% or higher is needed on both. Exams are written in person at scheduled OPT&C sittings across Ontario. After certification, the licence itself is issued by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. This course covers the Core Manual exam only; category module practice (Structural, Landscape) is planned separately.

Exam facts above were read from the OPT&C website in October 2026. Always confirm current fees, dates and rules with OPT&C directly.

Who This Course Is For

  • Applicants registered for the OPT&C exterminator exam who want timed practice before exam day.
  • New hires in pest control, lawn care and landscaping who must become licensed to apply pesticides in Ontario.
  • Candidates rewriting the exam who need to find and fix their weak content areas.
  • Internationally trained applicators who need to learn Ontario and federal pesticide legislation.

What Is Included

ComponentDetails
Diagnostic20 timed questions across all eight content areas, instant score and a breakdown by content area.
Content-area quizzesEight quizzes of 10 questions: legislation; labels and formulations; human health and toxicity; safety and PPE; environment; pest management and IPM; application equipment and calculations; emergency response. Every answer has an explanation and a source reference. Unlimited attempts during your access period.

The eight content areas and their weighting are CCEC's practice structure. OPT&C does not publish an exam blueprint. Eligibility

The eligibility standard follows the licensing body's published qualifications for an Ontario exterminator licence. To register you confirm that you:

  • are 16 years of age or older (if you are under 18, your parent or guardian must consent to the registration);
  • have a minimum Grade 10 standing in Ontario or the equivalent;
  • are proficient in English or French;
  • can upload a valid photo ID and proof of your OPT&C exam registration showing your exam date.

Applicants from any country are welcome. This is a short online course: a study permit is not required, and completion does not qualify you for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.

How It Works

1. Register

Choose Free Diagnostic Access or Mock Exam Access, complete the form, upload your two documents, and pay online where a fee applies. An unpaid registration is cancelled automatically after 15 minutes; you can register again at any time.

2. Assessment

Your details and documents are checked against the eligibility requirements, usually within a few hours if everything is in order. If not approved, you are told why and any fee paid is refunded in full by the same payment method within 2 to 3 business days.

3. Access

Your access email brings the link to your practice page, your access code and your access end date. Log in to the College learning portal and start with the diagnostic.

4. Practise until exam day

Work through the quizzes, then sit the mock exams under exam conditions. Results arrive by email after every test. Online students must meet the College System Requirements.

Important Information

Please read before you register

  • “This program does not require approval under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005.”
  • Canadian Career Education College (CCEC) is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ontario Pesticide Training and Certification, the University of Guelph or the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. CCEC does not administer the licensing exam and does not issue the licence. Completing this course does not qualify you for a licence, and the College does not guarantee an exam result.
  • Exam prep fees are non-refundable once access has been granted. If your registration is not approved, the fee is refunded in full.

Fees, refunds and access periods are set out in the Mock Exam Policies below.

Mock Exam Policies

Eligibility and assessment

Eligibility follows the licensing body's published requirements for the exam you select. Every registration is assessed against them using the details, photo ID and exam registration proof you submit. A free registration with missing details is cancelled and you may register again with complete details. A paid registration with missing details is held and you are told exactly what to send; if nothing is received within 3 business days the registration is not approved.

Fees and refunds

If a paid registration is not approved, the fee is refunded in full by the same payment method within 2 to 3 business days. Once access has been granted, fees are non-refundable. Free Diagnostic Access has no fee.

Access period

Paid access runs until the exam date you enter at registration. Free Diagnostic Access runs for one week from approval. If your exam date moves, send the new date through the support form before your access ends. After the end date the access pages close; to continue, register again for the tier you need.

Personal access

Your access code and access pages are issued to the person named at registration and work only with the email address you registered with. One registration per person per event; a higher tier is a new registration on the same event page.

Results

Results are emailed after each test with a breakdown by content area. They are practice results from CCEC's own question bank and are not recognized by, or reported to, any licensing or examining body. Completing a mock exam course does not qualify you for a licence.

Support

Questions about registration, access or results go through the support form; please allow 24 to 48 business hours for a response. College email comes only from @ccecollege.online, @ccecollege.com, or @cancollege.online.
