Your Path to a New Career: The Can-College Road-map

This looks like a highly cost-effective and low-risk way to enter the construction industry. At $325 per course ($1,950 total) and an 8 to 12-week timeline, it offers a rapid transition into the workforce compared to a traditional multi-year degree. Plus, with the campus right here in Vaughan—and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) being a massive hub for construction and development—the local job market is primed for these skills.

Based on the structure of this certificate, here is a realistic, step-by-step career path you can expect after graduation, grounded in current Ontario industry standards.

Phase 1: The Foundation (0–3 Months)

    • Education: Complete the 6 modules at Can College.

    • Preparation: Build a resume that highlights the specific academic projects and skills learned in the program, such as scheduling, document control, or estimating.

    • Networking: Leverage the "open to youth and new graduates" aspect by looking for entry-level internships or co-ops, and start networking on LinkedIn with local GTA general contractors and developers.

    Phase 2: Entry-Level (0–2 Years Experience)

    • Target Roles: Junior Project Coordinator, Project Administrator, Site Clerk, or Estimating Assistant.

    • Day-to-Day Responsibilities: You will act as the organizational backbone of a project. Expect to manage project documents (like Requests for Information and submittals), process permits, take site meeting minutes, and assist the Project Manager with schedule updates.

    • Expected Salary (Ontario/GTA): Roughly $50,000 to $65,000 annually.

    Phase 3: Mid-Level (2–5 Years Experience)

    • Target Roles: Construction Project Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager, or Junior Estimator.

    • Day-to-Day Responsibilities: You will start running smaller projects semi-independently or managing major scopes on larger projects. You will actively coordinate between architects, engineers, and site superintendents, track budgets, and manage the procurement of materials and trades.

    • Expected Salary (Ontario/GTA): Roughly $65,000 to $85,000 annually.

Phase 4: Senior & Management Level (5+ Years Experience)

    • Target Roles: Construction Project Manager, Senior Estimator, or Site Superintendent (if you discover you prefer being out in the field).

    • Day-to-Day Responsibilities: At this stage, you take full ownership of large-scale, multi-million dollar projects. You will lead project teams, handle high-level client communication, negotiate major contracts, and hold ultimate financial accountability for the project's success.

    • Expected Salary (Ontario/GTA): $95,000 to $130,000+ annually.

    Phase 5: Advancing Your Credentials

Once you have a few years of industry experience under your belt, you can boost your earning potential and title by pursuing industry-recognized certifications:

    • PMP (Project Management Professional): A globally recognized certification you can challenge after logging enough professional project management hours.

    • Gold Seal Certification (GSC): The Canadian Construction Association's gold standard of excellence specifically for construction management professionals.

    • Admission: Open to domestic and  *international applicants and career-changers of any age.
