Transfer Student Admission Process

Current IRCC Rules for Changing Schools

• Post-secondary students must apply to extend their study permit before changing to a new DLI, and need a new PAL unless an exemption applies.
• In most cases you must wait for approval before you start at the new school. See IRCC: changing your school or program.
• Study permit holders must actively pursue their studies and make reasonable progress toward completing their program.

Step 1: CCEC Admission and Documents

1. Apply for admission through the Admission Application. Save your reference number and upload the required documents when asked.
2. Submit the transfer documentation request form with: your CCEC admission approval or LOA, a copy of your passport, your current study permit (valid or expired), and proof of study at your previous school, if applicable.
3. If approved, you receive an admission offer and an invoice for the LOA fee and first tuition instalment. You have 30 days to accept and pay. The College then prepares your document package: LOA, enrolment contract, proof of tuition paid, and a support letter.

From your previous school, you may need proof that you completed or stopped your studies, such as a letter, diploma, or transcript, and an account statement.

Step 2: Apply to IRCC

1. Read the IRCC guides on extending a study permit and changing schools.
2. Sign in to your IRCC secure account and apply from inside Canada.
3. Upload your documents, including your new PAL if required.
4. Pay the CAD $150 study permit fee, plus CAD $85 for biometrics if requested, and submit.

Documents IRCC May Ask For

• Passport: the personal information page and any pages with stamps or visas
• Current study permit or work permit
• New Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and confirmation of enrolment
• Proof of completion of your previous program, if applicable (certificate, transcript, or account statement)
• Proof of funds, such as bank statements and proof of tuition paid
• A digital passport-size photo
• A letter of explanation (optional, but recommended)
• A medical exam, only if IRCC requires one

If Your Study Permit Has Expired

You may be able to apply to restore your status within 90 days of losing it. You must apply for a new study permit, pay the restoration fee, and you cannot study until your status is restored. See IRCC: if your permit expired.
