Smart Building Technologies and AI Integration (CPD)
A 40-hour continuing professional development (CPD) course on IoT networks, energy management, and the AI tools used for predictive maintenance and fault detection in homes and commercial buildings. Canadian Career Education College (CCEC) delivers the course in English.

The course focuses on where traditional trades meet artificial intelligence: predictive maintenance, automated fault detection, and energy optimization in building systems.
It includes a learning pathway for internationally trained professionals who need to apply their experience to Canadian and North American smart building standards.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- AI diagnostic tools: read automated fault detection results, optimize HVAC and electrical energy use, and plan predictive maintenance
- Local standards: apply North American privacy, security, and installation requirements to smart home and commercial building networks
- Global to local: map international building management experience to local IoT hardware and software
- Advising on upgrades: assess legacy systems in homes and commercial buildings and recommend energy-efficient, AI-supported upgrades

Admission Requirements
You can meet the admission requirements through any one of the following options. There is no age limit.
Option 1: Mature Student Assessment (MSA)
A foundational assessment of the English and math skills needed for the coursework, completed online or at the Vaughan campus.
Option 2: Professional Experience
A current resume showing work history in the trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing), IT, construction, or facility management. Related work experience can waive the secondary school diploma requirement.
Option 3: International Credentials
A copy of your diploma, degree, or trades certification from outside Canada. The College reviews it against its admission standards.
All applicants: a functional understanding of English (reading and writing) is required, as the course uses technical terms and AI software. Online students need a reliable internet connection and a computer or tablet.
International Applicants
- Applicants from any country are welcome.
- This course runs less than six months. A study permit and a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) are not required. Applicants in Canada are responsible for making sure their status allows short-term study.
- Completion does not qualify a student for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
How to Enrol
- Complete the online application and choose 100% online or in person at the Vaughan campus.
- Submit proof of your education. Experienced and internationally trained applicants are encouraged to include a brief resume so instructors can tailor examples to your background.
- After your application is reviewed, pay tuition to confirm your place.
- Receive your login for the CCEC learning management system, or your welcome package for the Vaughan campus.
Delivery and Assessment
100% Online
Self-paced study through the College learning management system (LMS), with real-time instructor support. Practical skills are assessed through instructor-monitored online evaluations.
100% In Person (Vaughan Campus)
Instructor-led classes with hands-on practical training. Attendance requirements are set out in the course syllabus.
In both formats, written examinations are completed online and are open-book. LMS orientation details are provided to all students before classes begin. Online students must meet the College System Requirements.
