Applying for Your Study Permit

Before You Apply

• You need a study permit for a program longer than six months. Programs of six months or less, and online study from outside Canada, do not need one.
• Under current IRCC regulations, CCEC accepts international students in vocational diploma programs in the online distance education format only, unless the applicant holds a valid study permit when applying.
• Most applicants also need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL).

Application Steps (IRCC)

1. Receive your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from CCEC.
2. Gather your documents, including your LOA and PAL if required.
3. Apply online through IRCC. Most applicants must apply online and before coming to Canada. See IRCC: apply for a study permit.
4. Give your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) if asked. Most applicants aged 14 to 79 need them, and you have 30 days from the request. The biometrics fee is CAD $85 per person.
5. Wait for IRCC’s decision. If approved, you receive a letter of introduction and, if needed, a visitor visa or eTA to enter Canada.
