    ​​​​“Mature Student Status” or “Mature Student Assessment”
    ​Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a high school diploma or GED. It is intended to allow applicants who have not completed high school the opportunity to be considered for admission based on the skills and experience they have acquired since leaving school.

    If a prospective student does not have a grade 12 education certificate which is equivalent to a Canadian secondary school certificate due to any reason, the college will still consider the student for admission to its programs if the student passes a qualifying test that has been approved by the Superintendent (The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Ontario).

    Program Outcome and Occupational Profiles

    Occupational Profile:

    The e-business specialist/administrator will develop, plan and manage the implementation of e-business awareness-building projects and information sessions. The e-business specialist's role is to coordinate, direct, and integrate the company's e-commerce web sites, services, and applications for the purpose of smooth business-to-business and business-to-customer transactions. This includes the development of e-commerce and e-business strategies for leveraging organizational procedures and processes via the Internet. This individual is also responsible for working closely with web development staff to ensure the design, implementation, and administration of the company's web portfolio.

    Skill competencies of the successful student: 

      • Develop, administer and manage an e-business or e-commerce department
      • Design business processes and create management procedures and policies to implement the required changes
      • Market, promote and sell products, services, and administer in the development of an e-marketing plan
      • Create and realize new business opportunities, products and services in the e-business industry
      • Create web sites and employ techniques to create high impact and highly functional websites
      • Plan, develop, test, and publish web content designed for mobile devices
      • Create basic applications for mobile devices
      • Use web analytics, such as tracking referral sources, improving web design and content, and identifying visitor preferences
      • Monitor all administrative processes and ensure compliance to e-business regulations.
      • Analyze, process, and develop ways to improve e-business operations and resolve any issues

    Core knowledge competencies of the successful student:

      • Provide quality of e-business products and services
      • Implement e-business procedures and processes to improve products and services.
      • Analyze a broad set of e-business practices and how information technologies may be utilized to further specific e-business goals
      • Implement service strategies to develop and maintain service excellence 
      • Promote and market the e-business
      • Analyze user, customer, as well as e-business needs for technology implementation or development
      • Excellent understanding of IT/web infrastructure, communications, marketing, and customer service principles
      • Knowledge of web authoring, protocols, development, and publishing tools
      • Knowledge of related programming languages and graphics design programs
      • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems
      • Analyze needs and product requirements to create a design


    Distance learning for International Students

    Since, by definition, distance learning does not require one to be in Canada or on-campus, a study permit cannot be issued for this type of course. For example, if a foreign national authorized to work in Canada is prohibited from engaging in studies as per a condition of their work permit, they are allowed to engage in distance learning courses.
